My Practice
I am a photo-based artist who lives in Toronto and works with historical photographic processes and print mediums.
Walking is an integral part of my practice. Where my thoughts flow at random, where I find inspiration for my art, where my ideas are developed and problems resolved.
My work incorporates elements within nature such as wild flowers, weeds, leaves, seeds and seed pods that I collect on my daily walks. I scan and catalogue the collected plant life into an image bank from which I draw to create my work. I work intuitively drawing on the essence of these collected specimens to evoke a fragile calmness that can exist within turbulent environments. There are plants and seed pods that have incredible structures and textures that are often overlooked as we rush by. Working with a limited colour palette and translucent hand-made Japanese paper, I create detailed environments that reveal the beauty and complexity of these natural specimens.
